“What The…***!” – Reactions Stirred Following Bama’s Yesterday’s Press Release About What They Intend To Do With Former Coach Nick Saban

The past few months have been eventful for Kane Wommack. Following Kalen DeBoer’s appointment as Alabama football’s head coach in January, Wommack, previously head coach at South Alabama, joined the Crimson Tide staff as defensive coordinator.

After the Crimson Tide’s fifth practice of the preseason on Tuesday, Wommack reflected on what has surprised him. He spoke about his appreciation for life in Tuscaloosa, noting his enjoyment of the town’s layout and the surrounding water.

Wommack also highlighted the unexpected support he has received from an unlikely source.

“One thing I didn’t expect or realize is how generous Coach Saban has been,” Wommack said. “Having the opportunity to draw from his experience has really eased my learning curve. I didn’t anticipate this level of openness from him, and I’m very grateful for his willingness to help.”

Nick Saban, who was a defensive coordinator before becoming a head coach, focused heavily on defense during his 17 years with Alabama, leading the team to six national championships and being deeply involved with the defensive backs.

Now, with DeBoer at the helm, bringing a more offensive focus, Wommack has found value in Saban’s continued involvement. Although Saban is now an ESPN analyst, he remains an advisor to Alabama.

“We’ve met in person several times and spoken on the phone frequently,” Wommack said. “Whenever I reach out, he responds, which has been fantastic. I’m really appreciative of his support.”

Alabama’s preseason camp began on July 31, and practice No. 5 took place on Tuesday. The team will return to the field on Wednesday.

The Crimson Tide’s 2024 season opener is scheduled for August 31, when they will host Western Kentucky at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
