Red Sox Poised for Major Roster Enhancement as They Gear Up for Postseason Push

The Red Sox enhanced their bullpen before the MLB trade deadline, and the unit is set to become even stronger soon.

Alex Cora provided an optimistic update on Chris Martin in Texas on Sunday. Martin, who has been sidelined for over a month due to an elbow issue, is scheduled to pitch on Wednesday. Although his initial plan was to pitch in the minors, Cora suggested that Martin might return directly to the major leagues.

“He’s going to let us know how he feels on Monday,” Cora told reporters, according to The Boston Globe. “If he feels ready for this level, we’ll be prepared. He’ll pitch Wednesday somewhere; it could be in Kansas City.”

Cora noted that Martin’s return would be “huge” for the team as they head into the final stretch of the regular season. Before his injury, Martin had been impressive, recording scoreless appearances in 14 of his last 15 games. If he can continue his strong performance, Boston will benefit from a solid 1-2 punch at the back of their bullpen.

Meanwhile, the Red Sox will aim to secure a couple of wins against the Royals before Martin potentially pitches in the series finale at Kauffman Stadium. The series begins Monday, with NESN’s coverage starting at 7 p.m. ET.
