“Didn’t See That Coming!” – Kalen DeBoer Gets Brutally Honest This Weekend On Jalen Milroe

As Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe heads into the 2024 fall camp, he faces a significantly different situation compared to last year. In 2023, the redshirt junior had to compete for the starting position, but this season he is assured of his role after securing it early last year. Despite this stability, Milroe must adapt to a new challenge: mastering his third offensive system in as many years, as head coach Kalen DeBoer introduces his own scheme.

Milroe got a preview of DeBoer’s offense during the spring and demonstrated a growing rapport with Washington transfer Germie Bernard during Alabama’s A-Day Game, which concluded spring practice. As fall camp began, there was a noticeable sense of quiet confidence in Milroe’s ability to fit into DeBoer’s system.

DeBoer commented on Milroe’s progress, noting his improvement. “Yeah, I thought yesterday and today were the best steps I’ve seen since I’ve been here. He’s being intentional not just in his actions but also in his body language, which is crucial. He’s leading effectively, which is translating into better play and inspiring his teammates. Today, he threw deep balls better than I’ve seen him do,” DeBoer said on Sunday. He highlighted Milroe’s increased comfort and rhythm, resulting in significant plays despite some strong defensive responses. DeBoer acknowledged Milroe’s commitment to raising his game and meeting high standards, with both him and Coach Sheridan pushing Milroe to focus on the finer details.

Last season, Milroe, who finished sixth in the Heisman voting, threw for 2,834 yards and rushed for 531 yards, accumulating 35 total touchdowns. His performance contributed to Alabama’s SEC Championship win and their appearance in the college football playoffs. With another year of experience and a more explosive offensive scheme expected, Milroe’s statistics are anticipated to improve significantly.

“I’m excited because we have a lot in store for our offense,” Milroe expressed on Saturday, reflecting his enthusiasm for the upcoming season.
