TERMS AGREED! “My Best Ever Signing!” – Paul Maurice Causes Stir On Tuesday As He Announced The Club’s Signing Of Former Greenville Swamp Rabbits Veteran Goalkeeper

The Nottingham Panthers have announced the signing of Ryan Bednard, an ECHL All-Star goalie, for the 2024-25 season. The 27-year-old Bednard brings a solid background from North American hockey to the Panthers, starting with his selection by the Florida Panthers as a seventh-round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft when he was just 18 years old.

Following his selection, Bednard spent three years playing college hockey at Bowling Green State University. In March 2018, his performance earned him a two-year entry-level contract with the Florida Panthers.

Bednard’s career has since seen him spend significant time in the American Hockey League (AHL), with stints at teams like the Grand Rapids Griffins in the 2022-23 season and the Ontario Reign last season. Additionally, he has played for the ECHL’s Greenville Swamp Rabbits for four out of the past five seasons, under the guidance of former Cardiff Devils coach Andrew Lord since the 2020-21 season.

During his time with the Swamp Rabbits, Bednard made a significant impact, setting a franchise record for career shutouts when he recorded his seventh clean sheet last season.

Commenting on his move, Bednard expressed enthusiasm about joining the Panthers. He noted that his North American experience should transfer well to the UK and mentioned he has been contemplating a move abroad for some time. He also acknowledged the growing reputation of the Elite League and expressed eagerness to contribute to the team’s success. Bednard added that he has been impressed by what he has seen of the Panthers’ fan base online and is excited about the energetic atmosphere at their home games.

Panthers Head Coach Danny Stewart praised Bednard’s skills, describing him as a “big and mobile goalie” who has consistently delivered strong performances throughout his career. Stewart expressed confidence that Bednard’s experience and abilities will be a valuable asset, giving the Panthers a solid chance of victory in each game he plays.
