GOOD NEWS: Another 5-Star CB Sets New Record As He Commits To Kansas State

Martel Jackson wasted no time in committing to Kansas State after receiving his first offer from them earlier this summer.

On a Sunday afternoon, Martel Jackson, a cornerback from Derby, announced his commitment to Kansas State. He caught the attention of the Wildcats during their first summer camp on May 30th, where he impressed with his impressive speed and height. Following this showcase, Kansas State swiftly arranged an official visit for Jackson on June 7th, and after the visit concluded, he made the decision to commit.

Initially flying under the radar in recruiting circles, Jackson’s profile surged in the past couple of weeks as Kansas State’s coaching staff focused on recruiting the local talent. With no other reported offers or interests, Kansas State moved quickly to secure Jackson’s commitment before other schools could enter the fray later in the recruiting cycle.

While other opportunities may still arise, Jackson’s early commitment represents a significant win for Kansas State’s coaching staff. With only three commitments heading into the summer, Jackson’s pledge marks the fourth for the Wildcats and notably, the first from Kansas in Chris Klieman’s recruiting class.

Jackson, who boasts a 39-inch vertical leap, a 4.38-second 40-yard dash, and a 10.6-second 100-meter dash, also excelled in track for the Panthers after recovering from injury last year. Reflecting on his improvement and preparation earlier this year, Jackson credited his coaches for pushing him to excel.

In addition to his athletic achievements, Jackson recorded 38 tackles for Derby last season. Standing at 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 175 pounds, he is known for his strong coverage skills on the perimeter, capable of running stride for stride with receivers downfield. With his lengthy wingspan, there is potential for Jackson to transition to safety at the collegiate level, though Kansas State plans to utilize him primarily as a cornerback, akin to past Wildcat standouts like Julius Brents and Will Lee.

Despite being unranked by 247Sports at present, Jackson is currently the fourth-highest-ranked commit in the 2025 class for Kansas State. He joins Weston Polk as the lone defensive players committed to Joe Klanderman’s defensive unit.
