“WELCOME TO DETROIT!” – Congratulations Pour Out As The Lions Officially Welcomes Their First Signing Before The Start Of A New Season

Last month, Brandon Sosna, senior director of football administration for the Detroit Lions, joined the Washington Commanders, marking the second significant personnel move from the Lions to the Commanders this offseason. Sosna played a pivotal role in contract negotiations, particularly overseeing extensions for key players like Amon-Ra St. Brown, Penei Sewell, and Jared Goff, highlighting his integral contribution to the team.

In response to Sosna’s departure, the Lions have appointed Charlie Adkins as their new Senior Director of Football Administration, as reported by ESPN’s Seth Walder. Adkins brings a wealth of experience from his seven-year tenure with the Arizona Cardinals, where he most recently served as manager of football analytics and research. Prior to this role, Adkins was a football operations analyst, establishing himself as a crucial asset in the Cardinals’ analytical and operational strategies.

Adkins’ influence extended across various facets of the Cardinals’ operations. He provided essential analytical insights to head coach Kliff Kingsbury, aiding in strategic play calling, and played a visible role in pivotal moments such as trade negotiations, notably highlighted during the Cardinals’ interactions with the Lions in the 2023 draft.

Reflecting on Adkins’ contributions, Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort praised his pivotal role in facilitating the team’s maneuvers, particularly during the intense scenarios surrounding draft trades.

The movement of personnel between the Cardinals and Lions has developed into a reciprocal exchange of talent. Last offseason, Arizona secured assistant general manager Dave Sears from the Lions, while Detroit countered by recruiting Brett Fischer as director of health and performance, following his extensive tenure with the Cardinals. Adkins’ departure from Arizona to Detroit continues this trend of cross-pollination between the two organizations, underscoring the competitive landscape for talent in NFL front offices.

In appointing Adkins, the Lions aim to sustain and enhance their operational capabilities, leveraging his analytical acumen and strategic insights to navigate the complexities of player contracts and roster management effectively. His arrival represents a strategic investment in bolstering the Lions’ administrative infrastructure, ensuring continuity and innovation in their approach to football operations amidst ongoing organizational transitions.
