Tony Vitello discusses Vols’ pitching plan for College World Series openee

Tony Vitello talked about the pitching strategies for Tennessee baseball before their opening game against Florida State on Friday night in the Men’s College World Series.

Omaha, Nebraska —Tony Vitello informed the media on Thursday at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha that Tennessee baseball’s opening game at the Men’s College World Series on Friday night will feature Chris Stamos starting on the mound against Florida State.

“I think we’re just going to kind of roll and stay true to our roots, roll with what we got,” Vitello stated. “We’ll start with Stam on Friday, and then we’ll go from there with what we see fit, and we’ll just treat the game that we’re playing that particular day as if it’s almost kind of the only game we got.”

Teams have a day off in between games at the College World Series during the double-elimination portion that is set up like an NCAA Regional weekend. Vitello admitted that the day off can change the approach for some clubs.
