Sheffield Wednesday target from last season set for ‘early release’ from Premier League contract

Isaac Hayden, previously a subject of interest for Sheffield Wednesday, remains a potential free agent this upcoming summer, with Newcastle United purportedly keen on finalizing a deal. The 29-year-old’s connection with the Owls emerged almost a year ago during Xisco’s tenure as manager. At that time, it appeared highly probable that Hayden would join Sheffield Wednesday on loan, with discussions even reaching the point of a rumored medical examination.

However, the anticipated move failed to materialize, leading Hayden to pursue a stint with Standard Liege in Belgium. This venture, however, proved brief as he was recalled by Newcastle United in January. Subsequently, Hayden spent the latter half of the season on loan with Queens Park Rangers, a fellow Championship side contending with Wednesday in the relegation battle.

Although Hayden remains under contract at St. James’ Park for another two years, reports from The Shields Gazette indicate Newcastle’s intention to explore the possibility of an early release from his contract this summer. While it seems improbable that Wednesday would revive their pursuit of Hayden, despite some unconfirmed interest earlier in the year, the midfielder is expected to attract attention from various clubs given his significant contribution to QPR’s successful campaign under Martí Cifuentes, securing their Championship status.
