TCU Horned Frogs Announce The Departure Of 3 Top Stars As They Already Make Plans To Get Better Replacements

FORT WORTH — TCU Head Football Coach Sonny Dykes has announced the addition of eight transfers who joined the program last month.

Dating back to December’s Signing Day, TCU has a total of 40 scholarship newcomers which include 21 high school signees and 19 transfers. Twenty-four of the 40 newcomers are on campus and will take part in spring practice which begins March 25.

Included below are TCU’s eight additions who committed to the program after the December signing period.

Cade Bennett (OL, 6-3, 305, Jr., Scottsdale, Ariz.; Notre Dame Prep; San Diego State)
Second-Team All-Mountain West after the 2022 and 2023 seasons … named San Diego State’s Best Offensive Lineman in 2023 … started all 11 games he appeared in, including playing every snap at left guard … started the opening 12 games at left guard in 2022 before being sidelined for the bowl game due to injury … did not allow a sack and only six quarterback pressures in 367 passing attempts on the season … per Pro Football Focus, his 82.4 pass block rating was the second highest in the Mountain West among offensive linemen and first among MW guards (min. 300 pass opportunities) … began his career by playing two seasons (2020-21) at Oklahoma State.

JaTravis Broughton (CB, 5-11, 190, Sr., Tulsa, Okla.; Union High School; Utah)
Played in 47 games with 29 starts at Utah … totaled 126 tackles, including 5.5 for loss with 11 passes defended, an interception and fumble recovery as a Ute … received All-Pac 12 honors in 2020 … recorded a season-best eight tackles, including one for loss, in the 2023 win over Florida … a season-best five stops in the 2022 campaign came in the Rose Bowl versus Penn State.

LaMareon James (CB, 5-10, 187, Sr., Norfolk, Va.; Indian River High School; Old Dominion)
Honorable-Mention All-Sun Belt Conference in 2023 … started all 13 games at cornerback and kickoff returner … became the seventh player in FBS history to return an interception (66 yards) and fumble (80 yards) for touchdowns in a game during Old Dominion’s 27-24 loss to Wake Forest … tied for the Sun Belt lead with four fumble recoveries … placed sixth on ODU with 59 tackles … received Phil Steele All-Sun Belt honors as a kick returner in 2022 and was Conference USA Honorable Mention in 2021 with a 29.4-yard average that ranked ninth nationally … one of just two players in the nation with two kickoff returns for touchdowns … had a 100-yard return against Louisiana Tech and then became the first player in ODU history to return the game’s opening kickoff for a score in the Myrtle Beach Bowl versus Tulsa.

Jevon McIver Jr. (DB, 6-1, 177, Jr., Charlotte, N.C.; Rocky River High School; Austin Peay)
First-Team United Athletic Conference for Austin Peay in 2023 … totaled 12 pass breakups, an interception and forced fumble … recorded 61 tackles, including one for loss … instrumental in the Governors reaching the FCS playoffs with a 9-3 overall record and 6-0 conference mark … began his career at Lenoir-Rhyne (2021-22) … redshirted in 2021 before playing in 10 of 11 games in 2022.

Ken Seals (QB, 6-3, 220, Jr., Azle, Texas; Weatherford High School; Vanderbilt)
Made 22 starts at Vanderbilt … holds the school career record for completion percentage (60.5) … seventh in Vanderbilt history with 4,292 yards passing and ninth with 28 touchdown passes, including a career-long 85-yard scoring strike against Florida in 2023 … became just the third SEC true freshman quarterback since 1972 to start a season opener when he got the nod in his collegiate debut at Texas A&M in 2020 … one of only two true freshmen nationally that season to have at least a 60.0 completion percentage and throw for more than 1,000 yards.

Andre Seldon (CB, 5-9, 190, Jr., Belleville, Mich.; Belleville High School; New Mexico State)
Started 27 of his 28 career games at New Mexico State, including all 15 in 2023 … Team Captain … had a team-best seven pass breakups to go with an interception in 2023 … totaled 52 tackles, including three for loss … had a Pick 6 against Lamar in 2022 … began his career at Michigan (2020-21), playing in two games for the Wolverines … Academic All-Big Ten in 2021.

Cameron Smith (DB, 6-0, 180, Jr., Whiteville, N.C.; Whiteville High School; Memphis)
Started 13 games in his Memphis career, including 11 in the 2023 campaign … totaled 57 tackles, three interceptions, six pass breakups and two quarterback hurries in 2023 … recorded a career-best 10 tackles versus USF … member of the 2021 and 2022 AAC All-Academic Team.

Richard Toney Jr. (DB, 6-0, 189, Jr., Arlington, Texas; Arlington High School; Nevada)
Made nine starts while appearing in 12 games for Nevada in 2023 … became the first Nevada player since 2017 with two interception returns for touchdowns in the same season … the Pick 6s came against New Mexico and Colorado State … placed second on the team with 67 tackles, including 3.5 for loss with a sack … totaled a career-best 12 stops with a TFL at Utah State … played at Nevada for TCU linebackers coach Ken Wilson.
