The Kansas City Chiefs endured a very difficult situation at their facility the other day.
Second-year defensive end BJ Thompson went into cardiac arrest during a special teams meeting earlier this week.
But great news came out of Kansas City today as Thompson appears to be doing okay.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Thompson is awake and responsive.
His prognosis is much better.
Whenever a very unthinkable and difficult situation like this occurs, it is extremely hard to process.
The great news is that the staff and the players in the building were able to act quickly and help Thompson get back to feeling a lot more normal.
Thompson came into the league last year as a rookie out Stephen F. Austin.
The two-time All-WAC defender made a real impact in his senior year recording 30 pressures and 20 QB hits, along with 5.0 sacks.
The Chiefs drafted him in the fifth round at pick No. 166 in 2023.
Now, he wasn’t a massive contributor as a rookie as he only had two total tackles in the lone game that he played in for Kansas City.
But in the end, he became a Super Bowl champion because of the players he was backing up.
Nobody knows when he will be able to take the field again.
He will need some time off just to pace himself a little bit.
If he can make it back to full strength, it will be an exceptional turnaround for the 25-year-old defender.
