‘We are getting him for sure!’: Sheffield Wednesday set to finalize ‘talks’ with top class star this week

Sheffield Wednesday are set to hold further talks with one of their most ‘important’ players this week, but face competition from Championship clubs.

Sheffield Wednesday offered seven players new contracts at the end of the season, with Liam Palmer and Barry Bannan becoming the first to extend their stays.

It is believed that some assets could be encouraged to stay at Hillsborough after Danny Rohl signed his own new deal, but interest from elsewhere could also throw a spanner in the works.

One player who is still in talks over his contract is Josh Windass, whose heroics helped Wednesday survive relegation at the end of the season.

The midfielder is set for further discussions with the Owls, but could still be tempted by Championship interest.

Josh Windass and Sheffield Wednesday set for further talks

The Star journalist Alex Miller wrote on X: “Understand talks to continue between Owls and Josh Windass this week regarding new deal. Important player to Röhl, agreeable to stay, but imp factors to sort. Comes after report of two Champ clubs readying offer. Few others keen.”

Wednesday likely felt confident about batting off competition from the MLS, but with Coventry and Hull both said to be keen, it could be a tough task to keep hold of him.

Danny Rohl is their only hope at keeping hold of him

Windass is already one of the Owls’ highest paid players, raking in around £15,000-per-week.

If another Championship club can even offer him more, then Danny Rohl’s side could have an issue tying him down to fresh terms.
