Kris Boyd Can’t Stop Talking About Celtic

Kris Boyd was on the pundit team for the Edinburgh Derby on Wednesday evening as Hearts defeated Hibs at Easter Road with a late goal. However, in his post match comments he somehow managed to wedge in a dig at a Celtic player.

Boyd, while covering the game, which had nothing to do with Celtic whatsoever, took the opportunity to compare Shankland’s abilities to those of Celtic’s forward, Kyogo Furuhashi.

He expressed his admiration for Shankland’s striking prowess, especially noting his ability to score with his weaker foot. Boyd said that while Kyogo is a talented striker in his own right, he believes that the Celtic player doesn’t possess the same level of finishing skill as Shankland.

Speaking live on Sky Sports, he said, “The goalscorer, or the attacking player, will tell you there is time for one more opportunity, there is time for me to become the match winner. He would have been looking for it, backing in, trying to get it down. The little touch just opens the goal up and doesn’t give the keeper any chance. What a finish it is. It’s his weaker foot as well. I’ve spoken about Kyogo in this league, they are different types of strikers but Kyogo couldn’t finish like that. His finishing is unbelievable and, for me, he is the best in the league.”

Celtic are in the market for a striker this January, someone who will come to challenge Kyogo and Oh and more than likely get a run of games while the Asia Cup is on.

If Shankland is a better finisher, you’d expect Celtic to be linked with a move for him rather than Aberdeen’s Miovski. This would signal that Shankland isn’t ‘the best in the league’.
