Former Tiger Finds New Home in Pro Football

A former Clemson standout has found his next home in professional football.

Mario Goodrich has signed a UFL contract with the Birmingham Stallions, per James Larsen of Pro Football Newsroom.

The former Tiger and All-ACC cornerback is now heading to the UFL after spending time in the NFL.

Goodrich originally signed a rich undrafted free agent deal with the Philadelphia Eagles in April 2022, inking a contract including $217,000 in fully guaranteed money. He had been on and off the Eagles’ practice squad since 2022 before eventually being released by the team on July 30, 2024.

During the 2022 season, Goodrich was elevated from the practice squad for Philadelphia’s Week 10 game against Washington but didn’t see any playing time for the Eagles that season.

Goodrich then appeared in four games (one start) for the Eagles during the 2023 season, posting five total tackles (three solo). After being released by the Eagles, Goodrich had a short stint with the New York Giants after they claimed him off waivers during the 2024 preseason.

Goodrich finished his four-year Clemson career from 2018-21 credited with 84 tackles (0.5 for loss), 15 pass breakups, five interceptions, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery over 47 games (16 starts). He earned third-team All-America honors from PFF and first-team All-ACC status for his performance as a senior in 2021, when he concluded his career as MVP of a win in the 2021 Cheez-It Bowl.

Former Clemson wide receivers Joseph Ngata and Amari Rodgers are also on the roster for the Stallions, who are coming off winning the 2024 UFL Championship following back-to-back USFL Championships in 2022 and 2023.
