
Former Georgia Bulldogs special teams coach Scott Cochran is now the head coach for West Alabama. Cochran joins West Alabama, which is a Division II program, after taking a year off coaching.
Cochran resgined from his job at Georgia in Feb. 2024. Cochran has long been tied to Georgia head coach Kirby Smart. The duo coached together at the Alabama Crimson Tide from 2007-2015. Cochran stay at Alabama until 2019 before he joined Georgia in 2020.
Cochran served as the strength and conditioning coach at Alabama under Nick Saban before becoming Georgia’s special teams coach from 2020-2024. Cochran is known for his limitless energy and enthusiasm. Cochran has been part of eight national championship teams. However, he took a year off coaching to address his addiction issues.
According to ESPN, Cochran revealed to Kirby Smart that he had been abusing painkillers for nearly 10 years back in 2021.
“You hired a drug addict,” revealed Cochran to Smart back in 2021.
Cochran remained sober for a couple of years. He later relapsed during his time coaching at Georgia in 2023. Cochran moved on from Georgia in Feb. 2024 and spent much of the past year as a motivational speaker for college football teams across the country.
Now, Cochran takes over a West Alabama team that went 9-2 last season before falling in the Division II playoffs. Cochran has played a big role in a lot of national championship teams and brings tremendous energy to West Alabama.
