Just before the release of the final CFP rankings on Sunday, Joel Klatt of Fox Sports shared his latest college football top 10 rankings along with special mentions of five other schools. It should also be noted that Klatt made the list after Saturday’s games, which featured multiple conference title games. Klatt has the Oregon Ducks at No. 1 followed by the Georgia Bulldogs at No. 2. The Ducks just won the Big Ten title with a victory on Saturday over the Penn State Nittany Lions while the Bulldogs edged the Texas Longhorns in the SEC Championship game
Meanwhile, Klatt gave the No. 3 spot to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the No. 4 position to the Tennessee Volunteers. At No. 5, Klatt gave that position to the Ohio State Buckeyes and No. 6 to the Longhorns. The Nittany Lions came in at No. 7 with the Indiana Hoosiers ranked at No. 8. The Boise State Broncos and the Arizona State Sun Devils, who both won conference titles on Saturday, came in at No. 9 and No. 10, respectively.
Klatt also mentioned the Alabama Crimson Tide, Ole Miss Rebels, South Carolina Gamecocks, Clemson Tigers and SMU Mustangs as teams that “almost” made his top 10.
Of course, such a list from a notable college football personality would garner plenty of reactions from fans online.
“Oregon over Georgia?!” wondered a fan.
Another fan seemed angry over where Klatt positioned the Longhorns: “Penalizing Texas for losing in a conference championship Joel? If OSU lost in the B10 championship game for loss #3 they’d be out and you couldn’t argue about it.” “Why is Tennessee over Ohio State? Ohio State lost a combined 2 games of 4 points,” commented another X user. From a different commenter: “Tenn with zero top 10 wins and lost to 6-6 Arkansas but ranked 4th?? Ouch. That seems way too high .” “This is the worst top 10 I’ve ever seen,” chimed in another fan on social media. Fans will have another list to debate on before the week concludes, with the College Football Playoff selection committee scheduled to release the final CFP rankings on Sunday evening.
