That being the signings of Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus over the 18 months before his departure.
While Fornals didn’t mention specific names it is clear who he is referring to as he admits West Ham made it clear they were moving on by spending big money on players to play in his positions.
“In the end, you can never leave angry or sad from a place that has given you everything and that you have also given or left everything on your part,” Fornals said, as transcribed from Diario de Sevilla.
“But well, there came a time when the club grew a lot and decided to bring in players paying a lot for them.
“In the end, that makes your position more competitive, and you don’t enjoy all the minutes you would like.”
Fornals also paid a heartfelt tribute to West Ham for everything they did for him.
It’s refreshing to see a player take such a mature and considered view of the end of their era at a club.

West Ham splashed out £90m on Paqueta and Kudus. They can both play off the left and centrally. And it’s clear the pair are upgrades on the Spaniard.
Fornals knows it and his acceptance of that fact shows Fornals genuinely cared about the betterment and growth of West Ham. Even if it meant he has to seek pastures new.
Fornals was a fantastic little player for the Hammers.
He scored several very important goals. And he had an eye for a pass that few possess.
But it was his attitude, workrate, enthusiasm and heart that he will best be remembered for at West Ham.
