‘Hopefully…’: Danny Rohl drops exciting Sheffield Wednesday transfer update after Coventry draw

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has dropped an exciting transfer update following his side’s draw vs Coventry City.

Sheffield Wednesday drew with Coventry City in the FA Cup fourth round last night.

The Owls fell behind in the first half but earned themselves a replay at the CBS Arena, thanks to a tidy finish from Djeidi Gassama in the second half.

Rohl next sees his side in action against Watford on Wednesday; a day before deadline day.

It promises to be a frantic finale to the January transfer window after what’s been a very subdued showing in the transfer market from Sheffield Wednesday.

But Rohl is hoping to get some new faces through the doors very soon.

Danny Rohl hoping for two or three new players before February 1st

Speaking to Football Heaven after the game last night, Rohl was quizzed on the state of play regarding potential new signings.

He said:

“In the next two, three days, hopefully we get some players we want to have, but it’s always a long, long process.”

So far this month, Sheffield Wednesday have signed two new players in James Beadle and Ike Ugbo, who’ve joined on loan from Brighton and Troyes respectively.

Three key priorities remain for the Owls

Looking at the first-team and the current weak spots and the positions that are a bit light, there might be three positions which could definitely do with bolstering; a new centre-back, central midfielder, and striker, so effectively a new spine.

Sheffield Wednesday lack depth in those three areas and so bringing in cover and hopefully added quality in each position will give Rohl all the arsenal he needs to go on and achieve survival this season.

A striker looks like it might remain the key priority after last might; Bailey Cadamarteri struggled to get into the game, although Ugbo showed a few promising signs before he was brought off.

In midfield, Momo Diaby looked quite good last night and so he could potentially save Rohl a new signing in the market, although the Owls boss may still want some cover after seeing Will Vaulks‘ form tail off.

And at the back, Di’Shon Bernard is yet to find his best centre-back partner with Rohl chopping and changing the defensive line, so the German may simply look to bring in a new and quality centre-back altogether.

But, as per Rohl’s comments, we could see some new faces through the doors very soon.
