‘For sure…’: Danny Rohl issues Sheffield Wednesday transfer claim as Chansiri returns for meeting

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl is set for crunch talks with the club’s controversial owner.

Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri hasn’t made headlines in a while now.

It’s been a relatively calm few weeks for the widely unpopular Chansiri, who saw his popularity hit new lows after his numerous outbursts during the first half of this season.

But The Star say that Chansiri was in attendance at the game vs Coventry City last weekend and that he and Rohl are set to meet and discuss the club’s transfer plans for the final week of the window.

Danny Rohl hoping for Sheffield Wednesday transfer boost

It’s not been an easy window for Sheffield Wednesday.

The Owls have signed James Beadle and Ike Ugbo on loan but have missed out on several targets including Conor Coventry, Darko Gyabi, and now Mika Biereth.

But Rohl hopes that talks with Chansiri will result in some transfer positivity ahead of the January 31st deadline.

Speaking to The Star, he said:

“For sure. But we’re still in contact, it doesn’t matter if he’s here or not here – I think it makes no difference. But yeah, we’ll try – it’s like on the pitch, you always try as a team to do something.

“Hopefully we will get to the end all that we want, but the transfer market is not easy in January. It goes quickly in one direction and then in a second direction. I will try it with the club, and hopefully by the first of February we will have the result that we want.”

Rohl needs transfer clarity from Chansiri

Despite the club appointing a new Head of Recruitment ahead of this month, and despite the positive start which saw Beadle and Ugbo arrive early on, this month has been a bit of a mess for the Owls.

They seem to be drifting from one target to another right now and with a week of the window left, it’s starting to look like the club is going to be left very short this month.

Much of the transfer business done in January is done towards the end of the month, though. There’s hope that the Owls can make a few more signings which is what they need at the very least.

And Chansiri’s arrival in England suggests that he’s now wanting to push things along, but fans may be wondering why he didn’t return earlier.

Sheffield Wednesday are leaving it very late, and just like in the summer, the club may be forced to shop in the bargain bin for some late new signings this month.

Up next for the Owls is another home game vs Coventry City, in the FA Cup fourth on Friday night.

It’s perhaps a timely break from league action which has seen Sheffield Wednesday lose their last two, and another opportunity for Rohl to unleash some lesser-seen players and some of his younger stars as well.

The game kicks off at 7:45pm on Friday night.
