Liam Coen, former coordinator and assistant with the Rams and Will Levis’ coordinator at Kentucky, is reportedly being considered for Bears offensive coordinator.
The Bears have a third offensive coordinator candidate, according to a report by CBS Sports
Kentucky offensive coordinator/QB coach Liam Coen will interview for the spot vacated with Luke Getsy’s firing, according to a report by Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports.
Again, like with offensive coordinator candidate Shane Waldron, there are past ties to Rams coach Sean McVay with Coen.
Coen was the Rams offensive coordinator during their collapse in 2022. He did it for one season after he’d been offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Kentucky for quarterback Will Levis for a year. While at Kentucky, Levis had his career high for touchdown passes and completion percentage under Coen.
Coen was a receivers coach for the Rams prior to going to Kentucky.
The Rams finished last in offense and 27th in passing and rushing in 2022 while Coen was their offensive coordinator. He departed after a season when McVay wasn’t certain he would return, and told assistants they should look for positions elsewhere. It also happened to be a year when Matthew Stafford played only nine games due to injuries, and the Rams had to start four different quarterbacks.
At Kentucky this past season his offense was 98th in scoring and 83rd in passing in the NCAA.
It wouldn’t be entirely surprising if the Bears considered Coen for QB coach, as well. They also have that opening after Andrew Janocko was fired.
The other Bears OC candidate reported is 49ers passing game coordinator Klint Kubiak.
