Pep Guardiola offers the latest information on Manuel Akanji’s injury status ahead of the upcoming match against Newcastle.

During various periods of the 2023/24 season, Manchester City faced the absence of key players such as John Stones, Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku, Mateo Kovacic, Jack Grealish, and Kevin De Bruyne, among others. Pep Guardiola recently updated on the injury status of Manuel Akanji, who had to be substituted in the FA Cup clash against Huddersfield Town.

Manchester City, like many other European football teams, has been affected by the prevalent injury issues this season, missing several first-team stars in the initial half of the campaign.

City’s roster has been without significant contributors like John Stones, Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku, Mateo Kovacic, Jack Grealish, and Kevin De Bruyne during various stretches of the 2023/24 season.

The injury concerns expanded further when Swiss defender Manuel Akanji had to leave the field in the recent FA Cup encounter with Huddersfield Town, contributing to the growing list of injured players under Pep Guardiola.

Ahead of the Premier League clash with Newcastle United at St. James’s Park this weekend, Guardiola provided an update on Akanji’s condition, stating, “Manuel Akanji is also injured. He had an incident against Huddersfield, and he’ll be out for a few weeks. I’m unsure about his availability for the FA Cup against Spurs or Burnley.”

Guardiola expressed relief at the absence of games in the next 10 days after the Newcastle match, and the team plans to assess the players’ conditions in Abu Dhabi during warm-weather training.

Despite trailing five points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, Manchester City has a game in hand and will face Newcastle United at St. James’s Park on Saturday. Following this, the team will undertake warm-weather training in Abu Dhabi and resume action on January 26 with an FA Cup fourth-round tie against Tottenham Hotspur.
