Everton legend strongly reacts to Newcastle star with recent happenings

After leaving Everton, Anthony Gordon had a tough start at Newcastle United, but the forward has been in’magnificent’ form.

Anthony Gordon’s superb run for Newcastle United demonstrates that he has ‘improved no end’ since leaving Everton less than a year ago. Kevin Campbell, an Everton great, says the in-form forward is not the’same man’ who struggled in his last months at Goodison Park.

Gordon had a breakout season with the Toffees under Frank Lampard, but his play dipped in the months after the attacker’s interest from both Chelsea and Newcastle. The Everton academy graduate was dropped from the starting eleven ahead of his January move to St James’ Park, and he faced harsh criticism from supporters following a poor run of form.

Gordon had a sluggish start to life in black and white, but has emerged as one of the season’s standout performers after helping England’s under-21s win the European Championship in the summer. With his winner against Manchester United last week, the Magpies forward increased his season tally to six, and he comes to Goodison Park with his new team today, having been involved in 11 of United’s goals this season.

Gordon’s form this season, according to Campbell, is just another success story of a player progressing under Eddie Howe’s supervision. The Newcastle head coach’s influence has been lauded by the commentator as he approaches the two-year anniversary of his employment, and he believes the January recruit is unrecognisable from the forward who left Everton.

Campbell told Football’s 12th Man via HITC, “Gordon has improved tremendously.” That’s not the player I saw at Everton. He has substantially improved.

“Eddie Howe’s coaching is excellent. Getting them into the Champions League in his first season was a huge accomplishment.”
