Former Texas defensive lineman announces transfer to Auburn

Less than an hour after former Maryland tight end Rico Walker announced his transfer to Auburn, Hugh Freeze and the Tigers picked up their second transfer commitment of the day in former Texas defensive lineman Trill Carter.

Carter, who comes to Auburn with one year of eligibility remaining, announced his transfer to The Plains Monday afternoon in a post to X, the social platform formerly known as Twitter.

In his lone season with the Longhorns in 2023, Carter appeared in each of Texas’ 13 games as a reserve defensive lineman and tallied nine total tackles and 1.5 tackles for a loss.

Prior to his time in Austin, Carter played three seasons at Minnesota, where he appeared in 32 games, of which he started 24. In his three seasons with the Golden Gophers, Carter tallied 55 total tackles, 8.5 tackles for a loss, four sacks, an interception and three pass deflections.

Out of high school, Carter was rated a 3-star recruit out of Crisp County High School in Leesburg, Ga. by 247Sports. During his high school recruitment, Carter hauled in offers from the likes of Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Maryland and South Carolina, among others.

Measuring 6-foot-2 and 300 pounds, Carter will help fill Auburn’s needs along the defensive line after the Tigers lose defensive linemen Lawrence Johnson and Mosiah Nasili-Kite to graduation and Marcus Harris to the 2024 NFL Draft.

In coming to The Plains, Carter will join a room of defensive linemen that features Jayson Jones, Zykeivous Walker, Kansas transfer Gage Keys, Quientrail Jamison-Travis, Keldric Faulk, DJ Reed, 4-star signee Amaris Williams, 3-star signee T.J. Lindsey and 4-star signee Malik Blocton.
