Vitesse Arnhem will block Rangers’ attempts to sign Million Manhoef in a potential £3 million with the Eredivisie strugglers fearing that a sale will lead to their relegation from the Dutch top flight.
And fears are certainly not unfounded.
A sad and sorry Vitesse Arnhem outfit have sunk to the bottom of the Eredivisie table after a disastrous few months, four points adrift of the survival spots. If this is what they are capable of with the outstanding Million Manhoef in their ranks, imagine where Vitesse would be without him.
The Scottish Sun report that Rangers are at the front of the queue for Manhoef, and could launch a bid of around £2.5 million. The Dutch under 21 international – who is valued at closer to £3 million – also has admirers at Leicester City and Preston, but Rangers may an ace up their sleeve with new director of football Nils Koppen endorsing a potential mid-season move.

According to De Gelderlander, however, Vitesse coach Edward Sturing and technical director Benjamin Schmedes have come to the conclusion that cashing in on Manhoef now would be potentially catastrophic for their hopes of climbing up the table and away from the drop zone.
Manhoef is not only Vitesse’s joint-top scorer at present, but also their most consistent performer.
To say that versatility is one of the diminutive 22-year-old’s strengths, meanwhile, would be to do him an understatement. While usually spotted on the right wing these days, Manhoef has also featured in midfield, wide on the left, through the middle as a striker, and even as a full-back on occasions.
He netted a first ever Eredivisie hat-trick against Groningen in May too, scoring nine goals and setting up six more in 2022/23. One in a ‘Million’ indeed.
Another Eredivisie export at Ibrox?
Rangers have a rather mixed track record when it comes to signing players who made their name in the Eredivisie, however, Danilo, Cyriel Dessers and Sam Lammers all yet to convince since joining under Mick Beale.
The Glasgow giants appear to be prioritising a left-back this month, Owen Beck, Josh Doig, Kai Wagner and Fredrik Oppegard of Vitesse’s Dutch rivals PSV Eindhoven mentioned.
Reports linking Steven Alzate and Emmanuel Dennis with a mid-season switch to Glasgow have, however, been played down.
