Ex-Gers star set for homecoming transfer after emotional ’20 exit

Andy Halliday grew up on the Copland Road, literally and metaphorically, and got to live out his dream when he pulled on the famous Rangers jersey.

With 152 appearances for the club he loves, scoring 18 goals in the process, few would argue that he was lucky to spend five years at Ibrox as part of various Gers squads.

At 32-years old, Andy Halliday is far from his peak, however, according to the Edinburgh Evening News, the ex-Rangers star might have the chance to return to where it all started.

Andy Halliday tipped to move as ex-Rangers star looks for minutes

Having played less than 90 minutes in total this season under Steven Naismith, the former Gers utility man is looking to get back to playing more regularly again.

His contract is set to expire at the end of this campaign and David Martindale is said to be offering him a way out of Tynecastle.

Andy Halliday’s experience is said to be an attractive quality for the Livingston manager and he could well pair the former Rangers teammate with Jason Holt.

Both were signed in the same summer by Mark Warburton and were key to the style of play that sealed the Scottish Championship trophy.

They would eventually be replaced in midfield by better players but their personalities and attitude meant that they would still be valued by future managers including Steven Gerrard.

Andy Halliday has a blossoming media career working with the BBC, Clyde 1 and on Open Goal so staying local will be an attractive proposition, if he wants to prolong his playing days that is.

Volunteering for a relegation battle might not be every player’s cup of tea but Halliday came up through the ranks with Livingston and that, added to his attitude, could be a real lift for Martindale if he can get the deal done.

Given his age, contract status and lack of minutes, you would like to think that Naismith won’t stand in his way.
