Georgia Bulldogs in the Super Bowl thankful for Kirby Smart

Georgia Bulldog head coach Kirby Smart has been in Athens since 2016 with a career record of 105-19. His most notable accomplishment is that the Bulldogs won back to back national championships in 2021 and 2022.

On the those championship teams, UGA had tons of elite talent on defense. Within that front seven were five future first-round draft picks. Three star players from that 2021 front seven plays together (Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis and Nolan Smith) in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles. Along with them are Kelee Ringo and Lewis Cine, who helped Georgia win a national championship, and are depth pieces for the Eagles’ secondary. Don’t forget about injured Eagles linebacker Nakobe Dean, who can’t play in the Super Bowl, but posted over 100 tackles this season.

Several former Bulldogs talked about how Smart has attributes to their success in the Super Bowl Media Day.

“One of the greatest coaches I have been around,” said Eagles cornerback Kelee Ringo.

“He’s special, man. He will treat you like no other,” said rising playoff star Eagles linebacker Nolan Smith. Smith leads the NFL in postseason sacks.

“I wouldn’t be here without him. He’s done a lot for us,” said Eagles defensive tackle Jordan Davis.

All three remain near and dear to Dawgnation. Smart continues to support the players in their NFL journey. Overall, the Eagles have six former Georgia players, so most UGA fans will be cheering for Philadelphia against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 59.
