This Morning presenter Cat Deeley made a dramatic interruption during the ITV show to announce a significant update on Prince Harry, who had been embroiled in a legal tussle with Rupert Murdoch’s News Group Newspapers (NGN).
While seated alongside her co-host Ben Shephard and guests Vanessa Feltz and Tom Swarbrick, as they prepared to delve into the day’s news, Cat abruptly halted the programme.
“News just in, Prince Harry has hit the headlines again,” Cat declared, steering the conversation towards the unfolding story. The revelation comes as the Duke of Sussex has reportedly reached a settlement with the publisher of The Sun, as disclosed at the High Court.
She elaborated: “He has settled his case against the News Group Newspapers,” while Tom, closely monitoring the case, chimed in: “Extraordinary development after the court case was meant to start yesterday and it got postponed because it became clear that there were talks between NGN (the publishers of The Sun and Prince Harry.”
Tom further explained: “For years, he [Prince Harry] has demanded accountability of the newspapers for what he says were ‘unlawful practices’ that ‘invaded his privacy'”, reports the Manchester Evening News.
“And this morning we have news that there has been a settlement that he has agreed to, with substantial compensation for Prince Harry,” Tom wrapped up the segment.
Vanessa chimed in, saying: “This is a massively big deal for Prince Harry, huge, because what Harry said he wanted more than money was accountability,” highlighting that he’s managed to secure both financial compensation and a “proper apology”.
