Regarding Donald Trump’s uncomfortable exchanges with his wife during his historic inauguration today, a body language expert has made a daring assertion.
Elon Musk made a strange gesture and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s response went viral after the 45th and 47th Presidents of the United States took office today, January 20, and gave a speech outlining his promises as the country’s leader.
However, Trump’s attempt to kiss his wife, Melania, prior to the ceremony was the other event that made headlines, and it wasn’t Michelle Obama’s absence.
The 78-year-old abruptly changed his mind after leaning in to kiss his 54-year-old wife on the cheek.
It appeared as though Melania’s big black hat prevented her from receiving a kiss from the 47th President of the United States, but it might have been an air kiss.
Even when Trump shook hands with 46th President Joe Biden, the bizarre encounter with Melania left many in disbelief.
A body language specialist has now offered their opinion on the matter.
“It’s possible that Trump was ‘unsure how to show affection to his wife’ at the inauguration,”Inbaal Honigman remarked in an interview with Covers.com.
As the expert put it, his conversations with Vice President JD Vance’s wife seemed more intimate’.
After the ceremony, Trump was spotted putting his ‘congratulating hand’ on his vice president’s wife, Usha, which prompted Honigman to follow suit.
This was’more personal and caring’ than what he did with his wife of nearly two decades, she continued.
Honigman continued: “Trump may have wanted to demonstrate marital bliss in greeting his missus with a kiss when he walked in, but their uncertain interaction ended up showing that they don’t respond naturally to another.”
Speaking more about Melania’ body language, she said that it was ‘still and neutral’, explaining: “She sits still in her model pose, her facial expression neutral, not drawing any attention to herself, letting all attention be on her husband.”
She claimed that Melania ‘flashed grins’ and presented ‘a more welcoming attitude’ to the public during his first inauguration in 2017.
Honigman did, however, credit Melania’s extremely enormous hat for contributing to the awkwardness of the kiss.
“[Trump] is clearly unsure how to show affection towards his wife in the presence of her impressive hat, but neither of them attempts to solve the situation,” she said.
“Melania could have angled her face to present her cheek to her husband. Donald could have bent a little lower to reach his wife’s cheek. But neither of them did it.”
