The Clemson women’s basketball team took on the Florida State Seminoles tonight at the Tucker Center. Check out how the game went down between the Tigers and Seminoles.

Ta’Niya Latson wasted no time getting on the board for Florida State, scoring the first points of the game. Makayla Timpson also started strong for the Seminoles, while Raven Thompson scored Clemson’s first points. Loyal McQueen brought energy for the Tigers, tallying 13 points on an efficient 6-for-9 shooting performance in the first half. Tessa Miller provided an unexpected boost, knocking down a rare three-pointer early in the game. They combined for 18 first-half points, with Timpson also collecting seven rebounds, showing their importance to the team. The Tigers got off to a fast start offensively, scoring at a season-high in the first half, a difference from their previous outing against Notre Dame. However, Florida State didn’t fold after an early deficit to Clemson. The Seminoles capitalized on Clemson’s turnovers, going on an 8-0 run midway through the second quarter to close the gap. Despite the turnovers, Clemson regained composure and finished the half shooting an impressive 55.2% from the field, including 37.5% from beyond the arc. The Tigers led Florida State at halftime, 38-34.
Second Half
Both teams started slow in the second half, but O’Mariah Gordon broke the ice for Florida State, sinking a three-pointer to open the half. Clemson’s Anya Poole responded with her first points of the game, knocking down two free throws. Gordon stayed hot, draining another three to tie the game early in the third quarter. Mia Moore continued to be a bright spot for the Tigers, contributing seven points in the second half. Tessa Miller also remained impactful, finishing with eight points and six rebounds after another solid performance. For Florida State, Ta’Niya Latson filled the stat sheet with 11 points, seven assists, and five rebounds in the second half. Makayla Timpson added to her already impressive showing, racking up six more rebounds and scoring eight points. Clemson’s Loyal McQueen had a quieter second half, managing just two points, four rebounds, and three assists. Meanwhile, O’Mariah Gordon caught fire for the Seminoles, scoring 11 points on near-perfect shooting—3-for-4 from the field, including 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. Carla Viegas also stepped up for Florida State, hitting multiple three-pointers, her trademark weapon, and scoring nine points in the half. The Seminoles began to pull away from the Tigers, building a lead that was as much as 17 points. It turned into a three-point showcase for Florida State, as they knocked down 10 of 19 attempts from beyond the arc in the second half. Florida State showcased why they are one of the top offensive teams in the nation, using their firepower to defeat Clemson convincingly.
Final Results
The Florida State Seminoles defeated the Clemson Tigers, handing them their third consecutive ACC loss. The Tigers now sit at 10-8 overall and 3-4 in conference play. Despite a strong start in the first half, Clemson’s effort didn’t carry over into the second half, allowing Florida State to take control and secure the victory. Clemson actually outshot Florida State from the field, posting a 46.6% shooting performance compared to the Seminoles’ 38.9%. However, the Tigers couldn’t capitalize on that efficiency, falling behind due to turnovers and Florida State’s dominant second-half three-point shooting. Clemson’s standout performers included Loyal McQueen, who contributed 15 points, six rebounds, and four assists; Mia Moore, who finished with 14 points and four rebounds; and Tessa Miller, who recorded an impressive double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. However, Florida State’s trio proved too much for the Tigers. Ta’Niya Latson led the way with 20 points, 10 assists, and five rebounds. Makayla Timpson was a force inside, scoring 17 points and grabbing 13 rebounds, while O’Mariah Gordon chipped in 15 points, shooting 4-for-6 from the field and a perfect 4 -4 at the free-throw line. This game provides another learning opportunity for Coach Shawn Poppie and his squad as they look to regroup. The challenge won’t get any easier, though, as the Tigers now prepare to face the 17th-ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at the McCamish Pavilion on Sunday, January 19th, at 2:00 p.m.
