Why is Andy Murray coaching Novak Djokovic in a ‘weird’ pod?

Tennis fans have been left baffled by Andy Murray making his coaching debut for Novak Djokovicfrom inside a “weird” pod in Melbourne.

The Australian Open kicked off on Monday and it sees two of legends team up to help secure the legendary Serb his 11th title in his favourite slam. Murray was on the receiving end of four heartbreaking defeats in the Final to the man he now coaches. And fans couldn’t quite figure out why the Scots hero was courtside rather than in the stands in the Rod Laver Arena. The innovation – first introduced at the 2022 US Open – provides a screen for coaches to analyse match data in real time.

Viewers compared it to a Glastonbury glamping pod as Murray and his fellow coaches were allowed to pass on instructions from their new position. And Djokovic is a major fan. He said: “I think it’s great that the Australian Open introduced the coaching box on the court at the same level in the corner. That’s where Andy and the coaching staff will sit.”
