Meghan Markle and Prince Harry supported by unexpected royal as she reaches out to Prince William

EXCLUSIVE: The Duchess of Edinburgh is trusted by many of her fellow royals – and is rumoured to have played a part in healing the rift between Prince William and Prince Harry

While some have found it difficult to navigate the complexities of the British monarchy, the Duchess of Edinburgh has successfully created a niche for herself, earning the trust and affection of many fellow royals. Unlike others who married into the family, such as the late Princess Diana and Meghan Markle, who spoke of their struggles to adapt to the strict expectations of the Royal family, Sophie is widely respected and liked.

Her ability to connect with both younger and older royals has led to her being described as a “bridge between generations”. According to Royal commentator Katie Nicholl, “Sophie is a very popular member of the family because she’s easy-going, there’s never any drama, and she just gets on with the job, quietly and diligently.”

The Duchess appears to have a strong ally in the Princess of Wales, who lives nearby in Windsor. “Sophie and Catherine are very close – I think much more so than people realise,” says Katie, explaining that Sophie, had a heartwarming connection with Kate Middleton from the start, sharing that commoner to royalty journey. “There’s not a huge age difference between them, and Sophie really welcomed Catherine when she married into the family. She was an outsider and so-called commoner, just as Sophie was, so they had that bond from an early stage.”, reports the Mirror.

Their camaraderie has been evident through the years – who could forget their giggles at Royal Ascot in 2017 after Sophie’s comical stumble into the carriage nearly landing on Kate. They’ve also been spied enjoying retail therapy together in London, cheering at Wimbledon side by side, and in 2018, they jointly hosted a glamorous event at Buckingham Palace, the Commonwealth Fashion Exchange. During the Covid-19 lockdowns, this duo joined forces once again to virtually greet diligent nurses serving around the globe.
