Meghan Markle could rake in the cash with her Instagram posts after her return.

The Duchess of Sussex made her return to the photo and video sharing platform on New Year’s Day, five years after she last posted on there. But while account, with the handle @meghan was registered on the platform in June 2022, the 43-year-old waited for the turn of the year to post online.

Meghan and her husband Prince Harry shocked the world when they announced in January 2020 that they planned to step back as senior working members of the Royal Family. At the time, they stated their desire to live a more financially independent and private life.

Meghan and Harry were married in 2018, and were initially part of @KensingtonRoyal, which also included Harry’s brother, Prince William, and his wife, Kate Middleton. But a year later, Meghan and Harry launched their own account, @SussexRoyal, a sign of their growing distance from the royal family. @SussexRoyal was discontinued in 2020 when they made their shock announcement.

Her first post is a black and white video of herself at the beach, wearing white and drawing 2025 in the sand on an overcast day. The account already has more than 665,000 followers. Meghan, who had a popular Instagram account when she was best known for her role as Rachel Zane in the US legal drama, Suits, had indicated she would return. In a 2022 interview with New York Magazine’s The Cut, she confided: “Do you want to know a secret? I’m getting back … on Instagram.”

So far, Meghan has disabled the comments on her post, having previously stated she’s concerned about the negative aspect of social media. But it’s been claimed that Meghan could make a staggering £800,000 per post on the platform. Experts have claimed that the former actress could cash in that amount as an “absolute minimum” following her social media return.

Speaking previously to the Daily Mail, social media expert Eric Schiffer said: “I would expect her to quickly become one of the most followed accounts on Instagram. You have celebrities like the Kardashians who can command $1 million (£800,000) and up for a single post promoting a product. There is no reason Meghan couldn’t be earning those sorts of fees.”
