One of the best linebackers in the Vikings’ lineup should return shortly. Ivan Pace has been designated for return off IR and has returned from practice, the organization announced today. Pace may return for Sunday’s game against the Packers, according to ESPN’s Kevin Seifert, but the organization will now have 21 days to activate the linebacker to the active roster.
Last month, Pace had a hamstring injury that ultimately necessitated a period on injured reserve. He may only require a short stay on injured leave, according to his return to practice, which is encouraging as the Vikings get ready for the postseason.
Pace, a 2023 undrafted free agent, made a name for himself in Minnesota as a rookie, finishing with 2.5 sacks and 102 tackles. He carried on producing till 2024. The sophomore recorded 59 tackles, three sacks, and six tackles for loss while starting all nine of his games. While tending to a quadriceps/ankle problem, Pace missed Weeks 3 and 4.
Pace and Blake Cashman have hardly been healthy at the same time in 2024, so the Vikings have had to rely on their depth. As of late, the team has switched up its linebackers to either play with Cashman or in his place. In Week 15, Kamu Grugier-Hill (11 snaps), Bo Richter (10 snaps), Brian Asamoah (nine snaps), and Jamin Davis (eight snaps) all saw action. However, in Week 16, Cashman played in all 100 of the team’s defensive snaps, and that trio was shut out.
