It’s likely that Georgia will continue to pursue a national championship even without quarterback Carson Beck.
According to sources cited by ESPN’s Mark Schlabach and Chris Low on Thursday, the Bulldogs are “preparing” to play in the College Football Playoff without Beck, who is now looking at options for repairing his right throwing arm’s elbow.
In the final play of the first half of Georgia’s 22–19 overtime victory over Texas in the SEC championship game, Beck suffered an elbow injury. Backup quarterback Gunner Stockton lost his helmet on a heavy hit inside the 5-yard line, and he came back for one play in overtime to pass the ball to Trevor Etienne for the game-winning score.
On January 1, Stockton is anticipated to start his first game as a college player in the Sugar Bowl. Stockton has completed 72.5% of his pass attempts over the past two seasons, throwing for 354 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.
This season, Beck has thrown for 3,485 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in 13 games. He is anticipated to submit an NFL draft declaration in 2025.
Georgia will play the winner of the first-round matchup between No. 10 Indiana and No. 7 Notre Dame on Friday night.
