When the transfer window opened just last week, Alabama saw a surge in players using the site. Thirteen players entered their names, and both the defense and the attack suffered their fair share of losses. But now that tight end Danny Lewis will be rejoining the Tide, one of those players has taken his name off the transfer portal. The 247Sports Composite placed Lewis, a former three-star recruit from the 2022 recruiting class, as the No. 31 tight end in his cycle and the No. 622 player in the nation. Lewis has only caught one pass for five yards in his three seasons at Alabama, but given that Robbie Ouzts and C.J. Dippre, two of the Crimson Tide’s mainstays at the position, are both out of eligibility, his role could grow the next season. In addition to having a major impact on the rushing game, Dippre and Ouzts combined for 26 catches, 321 receiving yards, and a score. Josh Cuevas, a former Washington transfer, was also heavily utilized by Alabama at tight end, hauling in 15 passes for 213 yards and a touchdown.
With the lack of experienced players and seasoned attrition behind him, Lewis will have an opportunity to play significant snaps in 2025. The upperclassmen in the position group for the following year will be Lewis and Cuevas. In the 2025 recruiting class, Alabama signed two tight ends: Marshall Pritchett, a more blocking archetype, and Kaleb Edwards, a significant receiving threat. This season, Ty Lockwood was a freshman who might compete for snaps the next year.
