Ohio State football players clean up Big Ten awards

Heading into this season, the Ohio State football team was widely regarded as one of the top programs in the nation, boasting an incredibly talented roster. Although their recent loss was a major disappointment, their overall performance this season proves their excellence remains undeniable.

Many Buckeyes showcased their exceptional skills throughout the season, resulting in a sweep of Big Ten awards. Numerous players earned prestigious honors and All-Big Ten selections, with standout performances across the board. Jeremiah Smith, Ohio State’s star player, made history with unprecedented achievements.

Smith became the first freshman to win both the Big Ten Receiver of the Year and the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in the same season. He also earned a spot on the First-team All-Big Ten roster, capping off a dominant season with well-deserved accolades.

Multiple Ohio State Players Shine in Big Ten Awards

Smith was one of seven Buckeyes named to the First-team All-Big Ten roster, joined by Donovan Jackson, Seth McLaughlin, Lathan Ransom, Cody Simon, J.T. Tuimoloau, and Caleb Downs. Downs also claimed the Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year Award.

On the Second-team All-Big Ten roster were Jack Sawyer and Sonny Styles. Third-team selections included Emeka Egbuka, Josh Simmons, Will Howard, Denzel Burke, Tyleik Williams, TreVeyon Henderson, and Quinshon Judkins.

Big Ten Honorable Mentions went to Ty Hamilton, Jordan Hancock, Davison Igbinosun, Josh Fryar, Tegra Tshabola, and John Ferlman. While there’s some debate about whether Fryar, Tshabola, or Burke were deserving of recognition, it’s still a proud moment for them.

The Loss to Michigan Stings More

Despite these accolades, Ohio State’s loss to TTUN (That Team Up North) feels even more painful. With such a talented roster, the defeat highlighted coaching issues, particularly a poor game plan. The hope remains that adjustments can be made in time for the College Football Playoff.
