Quarterback hitting the transfer portal for 3rd time

Ta’Quan Roberson’s eventful college football journey continues.

Pete Nakos of On3 reported on Tuesday that Roberson intends to transfer, with the official transfer window opening next Monday, Dec. 9. The quarterback from Orange, New Jersey, played for Kansas State during the 2024 season, marking his sixth year in college football. To compete next year, he will likely need a waiver from the NCAA.

Roberson began his career as a four-star recruit at Penn State in 2019. He appeared in just two games during his first two seasons before stepping in for an injured Sean Clifford during a 2021 matchup at Iowa. In that top-five showdown, Penn State blew a first-half lead as Roberson and the offense struggled against Kinnick Stadium’s hostile crowd, resulting in multiple false starts and only three second-half points.

Following that season, Christian Veilleux took over as Clifford’s primary backup, leading to Roberson’s transfer to UConn. At Penn State, Roberson had played in six games, completing 11 of 29 passes for 85 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.

In his first season with UConn in 2022, Roberson was named the starter but suffered a season-ending injury in the opener. He bounced back in 2023, throwing for 2,075 yards, 12 touchdowns, and six interceptions with a 58.3% completion rate.

Roberson transferred to Kansas State this past offseason, serving as the backup to starter Avery Johnson. He appeared in four games, completing three of seven passes for 18 yards. However, he made a key play in a 31-28 victory over Colorado, completing a 13-yard third-down pass to sustain a touchdown drive while briefly stepping in for Johnson.
