Early signing day is quickly approaching on Wednesday, and it couldn’t come soon enough for Clemson.
On Sunday, Clemson suffered a significant loss as its sixth commitment flipped to another school. Highly sought-after safety Jordan Young (6-0, 165) announced his decision to sign with Michigan, ending a commitment to Clemson that lasted just under a month. Young initially chose the Tigers over N.C. State and had described Clemson as the best fit after visiting for games this season. However, his prior visits to Michigan last summer and for a game in October ultimately influenced his decision.
Despite losing Young, Clemson gained a major addition the same afternoon. Offensive tackle Tucker Kattus (6-5, 304), previously committed to Kentucky, switched his commitment to Clemson. Kattus, who committed to Kentucky in March and visited the school in June, has two brothers playing for the Wildcats. Surprisingly, Kattus made his decision to join Clemson without visiting the campus. He held offers from numerous programs, including Missouri, Arkansas, Syracuse, and Michigan. Kattus is the fifth offensive lineman in Clemson’s 2025 class, bringing the total commitments to 14.
Last week, quarterback Chris Denson (6-3, 190) from Plant City, Florida, also committed to Clemson. Initially pledged to Coastal Carolina, Denson changed course after drawing attention from programs like Minnesota and Pitt. As a senior, he threw for 2,334 yards and 28 touchdowns while rushing for 1,159 yards and 12 scores. His junior season earned him Florida FACA 4M Player of the Year honors, and his playoff performance caught the eye of Clemson coaches, helping fill the Tigers’ quarterback vacancy for 2025 after Blake Hebert flipped to Notre Dame.
Meanwhile, South Carolina continues to bolster its recruiting efforts. Head coach Shane Beamer and receivers coach Mike Furrey offered Christ Church receiver Jackson Repp (5-8, 160) a spot after a standout summer camp performance. Despite suffering a torn ACL, Repp made an official visit to USC for the Wofford game, praising the hospitality and environment. Repp’s junior season saw him tally 1,510 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns, demonstrating his potential as a key playmaker.
South Carolina is also vying for safety Steve Miller (6-2, 215) of Greensboro, Georgia, who has Southern Cal as a major contender. Miller recently visited USC and has another teammate, DT Kevin Wynn, who is committed to Florida State but exploring other options.
Recruitment battles between Clemson and South Carolina continue, with both schools appearing in the top lists for several 2026 prospects, including CB Samari Matthews and OL Zyon Guiles. Quick updates also note commitments, offers, and transfer plans involving key targets for both programs.
