West Virginia Mountaineers Owner Ken Kendrick Fulfills His Mind Blowing Promise To The Mountaineers Following Their 78-47 Blowout Victory Over Bowling Green
The West Virginia Mountaineers continued their dominant early-season form with a commanding 78-47 victory over the Bowling Green Falcons on Wednesday night. In front of a lively crowd at the WVU Coliseum, the Mountaineers delivered a complete team performance, showcasing their depth, defensive prowess, and offensive efficiency.
First-Half Domination
The Mountaineers set the tone early, jumping out to a double-digit lead within the first ten minutes. Their aggressive full-court press stifled Bowling Green’s ball movement, forcing eight turnovers in the opening half alone. Meanwhile, senior guard Joe Wilson led the charge offensively, scoring 12 of his game-high 19 points before halftime.
By the break, West Virginia held a 40-22 lead, thanks in part to their dominance on the glass. Forward Marcus Taylor pulled down six of his game-high 12 rebounds in the first half, limiting Bowling Green to just one shot per possession.
Second-Half Surge
The Falcons tried to mount a comeback early in the second half, but the Mountaineers’ defense remained impenetrable. Bowling Green shot just 32% from the field and a dismal 21% from beyond the arc, struggling to find any rhythm against West Virginia’s swarming defense.
West Virginia’s offense, meanwhile, continued to hum. Freshman phenom Malik Jones showcased his versatility, contributing 14 points, six assists, and four steals. Jones’ highlight-reel alley-oop to forward Jamal Crawford midway through the second half brought the crowd to its feet and effectively sealed the game.
Depth on Display
One of the Mountaineers’ most impressive traits this season has been their depth. Ten players saw significant minutes in the game, with eight contributing to the scoring column. The bench accounted for 24 points, led by sophomore guard Tyler Harris, who added 10 points and three assists in 18 minutes of action.
Coach Bob Huggins praised his team’s balanced effort after the game. “This is the kind of team basketball we’ve been emphasizing all season,” Huggins said. “Everyone played their role, and the intensity on both ends of the floor was exactly where it needed to be.”
