Darren Rizzi has quickly proven he knows how to get the best out of Saints players

Darren Rizzi, recently named interim head coach of the New Orleans Saints, has quickly made his mark by implementing new strategies and adjustments to energize a struggling team. Known for his innovative approach, Rizzi moved into the interim role following the dismissal of Dennis Allen after a disappointing start to the season. His changes aim to foster unity, improve player health, and enhance performance.

One notable change includes restoring the locker room layout to its pre-pandemic configuration, grouping players by position to encourage camaraderie. Additionally, Rizzi introduced a mandatory “activation period” before practices, focusing on injury prevention by ensuring players are properly warmed up—a response to the team’s persistent injury issues.

On the coaching front, Rizzi reshuffled roles, promoting key staff and filling critical gaps to address weaknesses in both special teams and defense. These measures come as part of his broader strategy to revitalize the Saints, who now sit at a challenging 2-7 record. While his impact is still unfolding, Rizzi’s adjustments signal a commitment to transforming the team’s culture and performance.
