NEW YORK — After a closely contested matchup against the Florida Panthers, the New York Rangers made a roster adjustment, reassigning Matt Rempe to the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack. The move comes as the Rangers look to evaluate and strengthen their lineup amid the demanding early season schedule.
The 21-year-old Rempe, a towering presence at 6’7”, has shown flashes of promise with his physicality and energy on the ice. Drafted by the Rangers in 2020, Rempe’s playstyle is seen as a valuable asset, but the Rangers believe he could benefit from further development in the AHL.
In the recent game against Florida, the Rangers faced a resilient Panthers squad that capitalized on opportunities to break through New York’s defense. The Rangers managed to keep the game tight but ultimately fell short, ending with a 3-1 loss. Rempe, who has been part of the team’s rotation, contributed limited ice time and was kept off the score sheet.
Rangers Head Coach Gerard Gallant stated, “Matt has incredible potential, but we think a bit more time in Hartford will help sharpen his skills and confidence. We’re looking forward to seeing how he continues to develop.”
This demotion doesn’t necessarily spell a long absence for Rempe, who could see a swift return to the NHL with a string of strong performances in Hartford. For now, the Rangers will look to recalibrate their roster and strategy as they press forward into the season.
