Rangers are interested in Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri, but securing a deal for the 21-year-old remains “quite difficult,” transfer expert Fabrizio Romano exclusively told GIVEMESPORT.
Romano stated that Manchester United is looking to sell the Tunisia international permanently this summer to raise funds for new signings. However, a permanent deal is challenging for the Scottish club at the moment, although Hannibal might be available for a reduced fee due to his contract expiring in 11 months.
Hannibal, praised as “phenomenal” during his loan at Birmingham by John Eustace, is expected to leave Old Trafford before the transfer window closes on August 30, with growing interest from both Rangers and Celtic.
Romano clarified that Manchester United does not plan to loan out Hannibal again after his six-month stint at Sevilla, where he made only six appearances and accumulated 101 minutes of La Liga action.
Man Utd Star Eyed by Scottish Giants
Romano, in his exclusive discussion with GMS, suggested that Manchester United is solely interested in a permanent transfer for Hannibal, who has less than 12 months left on his current deal at Old Trafford:
“Yes, there was interest. It’s true, but Man United are only interested in a permanent transfer. Selling the player permanently, not a new loan. And at the moment, for Rangers, that could be quite difficult. So the conversation is true, the interest is true, but the deal’s structure will be crucial to understanding Hannibal’s future.”
Recent reports indicate Celtic is preparing a move for the 21-year-old midfielder, and now Rangers have joined the race to bring Hannibal to Ibrox this summer.
According to Mosaique FM, Brendan Rodgers’ side is interested in a permanent move for the Tunisian, while Matt O’Riley’s future remains uncertain with interest from several Premier League clubs, including Southampton and Leicester City.
Rangers might see Hannibal as a potential replacement for star playmaker Todd Cantwell, who has requested a transfer just 18 months after arriving in Scotland.
Hannibal, who scored his first senior goal for Manchester United last season, has made 13 first-team appearances for the Red Devils since joining the club’s academy from Monaco in 2019.

Rangers Eye Marco van Ginkel
Rangers are also interested in signing former Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel on a free transfer, according to the Scottish Sun. Rangers boss Philippe Clement has been monitoring the 31-year-old’s situation this summer and could now be ready to bring him to Glasgow following his contract expiry at Vitesse Arnhem.
Van Ginkel, one of Jose Mourinho’s first signings during his second stint at Chelsea, did not live up to expectations despite being tipped to become “the next Frank Lampard.” Despite spending eight years at Chelsea, the Dutchman made just four senior appearances before leaving in 2021.
