GOOD NEWS: DEAL DONE, TERMS AGREED! Vikings sign veteran DB Bobby McCain, a favorite of coordinator Brian Flores from time with Dolphins.

**EAGAN, Minn. —** On Monday, the Minnesota Vikings signed veteran defensive back Bobby McCain, bringing in a player with a decade of experience to bolster their secondary.

McCain began his career with the Miami Dolphins, who drafted him in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft from Memphis. He spent his first six seasons with the Dolphins, including the last two under coach Brian Flores, who is now the Vikings’ defensive coordinator. Additionally, McCain played alongside current Vikings defensive backs coach Daronte Jones during his time in Miami.

After practice, McCain expressed his enthusiasm about reuniting with familiar faces. “I know so many of the guys here from my time in Miami,” McCain said. “I’m just thrilled to be here and to be back with them.”

Standing 5-foot-9 and weighing 196 pounds, McCain primarily played cornerback during his tenure with the Dolphins but transitioned to some safety duties under Flores. In 2021, during his first season with the Washington Commanders, McCain started eight games at both cornerback and safety, leading the team with four interceptions. Last season, he played for the New York Giants.

Before the Vikings’ initial full-pads practice on Monday, Flores indicated that McCain would be utilized as a safety. However, Flores’ defensive scheme emphasizes versatility, and McCain’s varied experience will be valuable, particularly since the Vikings currently lack depth at cornerback.

To accommodate McCain’s signing, the Vikings waived kicker John Parker Romo, thereby solidifying the position for rookie Will Reichard, whom they drafted in the sixth round from Alabama. This move leaves the team with one less spot on their 90-man roster but secures Reichard’s role moving forward.
