Leafs Re-sign Forward Connor Dewar to One-Year Contract
The Toronto Maple Leafs have solidified their roster ahead of the upcoming NHL season by re-signing forward Connor Dewar to a one-year contract valued at $1.18 million. The announcement, made on Tuesday, underscores the team’s commitment to maintaining depth and continuity as they prepare for another competitive campaign.
Dewar, a 25-year-old forward, made an impact with the Maple Leafs last season after being acquired from the Minnesota Wild on March 8. In his 17 games with Toronto, he showcased his versatility and contribution to the team, tallying one goal and four assists while averaging nearly 13 minutes of ice time per game. His ability to adapt quickly to the Maple Leafs’ system and make meaningful contributions on both ends of the ice was instrumental during his brief stint in the regular season.
Before joining Toronto, Dewar spent time with the Wild, where he recorded 10 goals and four assists in 57 games. His transition to playoff hockey was seamless, as he added an assist in six postseason games against the Boston Bruins, highlighting his capability to perform under pressure on the big stage.
Selected by the Minnesota Wild in the third round of the 2018 NHL Draft, Dewar has steadily progressed through the ranks, accumulating a total of 19 goals and 24 assists in 190 games over parts of three seasons with both the Wild and the Maple Leafs. His journey showcases resilience and determination, attributes that align with the Maple Leafs’ ethos of building a competitive and cohesive roster.
General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Kyle Dubas, expressed confidence in Dewar’s abilities and emphasized his value to the team’s forward depth. “Connor Dewar brings a combination of skill, tenacity, and playoff experience that we value greatly,” said Dubas. “His performance last season demonstrated his ability to contribute effectively, and we look forward to seeing his continued growth and impact in the upcoming season.”
The re-signing of Connor Dewar represents a strategic move by the Maple Leafs to reinforce their roster with a blend of youth and experience. As Toronto aims for a deep playoff run and seeks to build upon their competitive edge in the highly competitive NHL landscape, Dewar’s presence is expected to play a pivotal role in achieving team success.
As the Maple Leafs gear up for the new season, the re-signing of Connor Dewar signifies their commitment to continuity and enhancing their roster’s depth, setting the stage for another exciting chapter in Toronto’s pursuit of NHL glory.
