Ex-Bruins forward won’t re-sign in Toronto, Boston reunion possible

Former Bruins forward Tyler Bertuzzi will not be extending his tenure with the Toronto Maple Leafs due to financial constraints, mirroring the Bruins’ own situation from a year ago.

According to Darren Dreger of TSN, Bertuzzi’s asking price has surpassed what Toronto can accommodate under their salary cap. Dreger tweeted, “Tyler Bertuzzi won’t be returning to the Maple Leafs. His value has out priced Toronto. He will land a deal elsewhere in the 4 year and over $5 mil per territory.”

With NHL free agency set to commence on Monday, Boston is expected to express interest in potentially reuniting with Bertuzzi.

Bertuzzi’s departure from Toronto underscores the limitations posed by the salary cap, prompting him to seek a new contract elsewhere in the range of four years and exceeding $5 million annually.

Boston, having faced similar cap challenges previously, may view Bertuzzi as a viable option to bolster their roster as they approach the free agency period.

Darren Dreger of TSN reports that Tyler Bertuzzi won’t be staying with the Maple Leafs due to his asking price exceeding what Toronto can afford under the salary cap.
