The Texas Longhorns are shaping an impressive 2026 recruiting class this offseason with their latest addition. Four-star wide receiver Chris Stewart announced his commitment to Texas and coach Steve Sarkisian via Twitter on Tuesday, marking the Longhorns’ second commitment for the class alongside five-star quarterback Dia Bell.
Stewart, hailing from Shadow Creek High School in Pearland, Texas, stands at 6 feet tall, weighs 175 pounds, and ranks as the 27th overall player in the state according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. His commitment tweet emphasized his unwavering dedication to the University of Texas with a resounding “#HookEm.”
Texas had extended an offer to Stewart back in December 2023, amidst competition from prominent programs such as Michigan, Alabama, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, and USC. Stewart actively engaged with Texas during their Junior Day in January and returned for a subsequent camp in June, while also attending Texas A&M’s camp in College Station earlier that month.
During his last season at Shadow Creek, Stewart showcased his skills with 35 receptions, totaling 654 yards and scoring 10 touchdowns.
The Longhorns’ recruiting efforts for the 2026 class have already shown promise, securing commitments from top talents like Dia Bell and now Chris Stewart. They are also arranging an unofficial visit next month with five-star defensive lineman Jahkeem Stewart, underscoring their proactive approach in building a competitive roster.
While Sarkisian and his coaching staff are currently focused on the upcoming season and bolstering commitments for the 2025 recruiting class, the addition of Stewart adds significant momentum for the future. Texas is poised to capitalize on this early success as they continue to solidify their roster and attract top-tier talent in the competitive landscape of collegiate football recruiting.
