McCain, a depth cornerback, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2021, initially signing with the Denver Broncos. During his rookie season, he played two games with the Philadelphia Eagles and spent the 2022 season on the Eagles’ practice squad, including the postseason. In 2023, McCain attended training camp with the Carolina Panthers.
Teamer, also brought in to add depth, especially in special teams, has a more extensive background. The 27-year-old safety returns to his hometown of New Orleans, where he attended Brother Martin High School, excelling as a linebacker and safety. He later played college football at Tulane University, where he appeared in 46 games over four years. During his college career, Teamer accumulated 197 tackles (128 solo), three sacks, three interceptions, 15 passes defensed, four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and two blocked kicks.
Teamer brings considerable NFL experience, having played in 40 games. His return to New Orleans is a homecoming, and his familiarity with the area and local support could prove advantageous. Despite his experience, Teamer is primarily seen as a special teams asset and a depth option for the safety position, which has been a concern for the Saints for several months.
While neither McCain nor Teamer’s signings are groundbreaking, they address the Saints’ need for additional depth in the secondary. Teamer’s ability to contribute on special teams and his versatility in the defensive backfield make him a valuable addition, albeit with a limited ceiling. McCain, though less experienced, provides further depth and potential upside as he continues to develop his skills in the NFL.
