Sheffield Wednesday set to complete deal for former Premier League man

Sheffield Wednesday are poised to secure their third summer signing with Yan Valery nearing the completion of his transfer. The Star initially reported the Owls’ keen interest in finalizing the deal before the week’s end, confirming shortly after that Valery had undergone a successful medical examination, a crucial step towards formalizing the move.

Valery, a 25-year-old right-back, underwent his medical assessment smoothly, paving the way for an imminent announcement of his acquisition. This development adds to the upcoming arrivals of Ben Hamer and Max Lowe, who are set to join on July 1st upon the expiration of their current contracts elsewhere. Unlike them, Valery’s transfer from French club Angers is immediate, marking Sheffield Wednesday’s first permanent signing involving a transfer fee since the previous summer.

Danny Röhl, the manager, will welcome Valery as a reinforcement ahead of the preseason, enhancing options on the right side of defense alongside Liam Palmer and Pol Valentin for the upcoming 2024/25 campaign. The acquisition is timely for Wednesday, who narrowly avoided relegation in the Championship last season under Röhl’s guidance, following a challenging start. The club aims for a more successful campaign under the German’s leadership in his first full season.

Preseason preparations are set to commence soon, with players returning for testing the following Friday, leading up to the Owls in the Park event scheduled for June 29th.
