The New York Giants have secured the services of Jacob Saylors, a free agent running back fresh from a season in the UFL. Standing at 5’10” and weighing 199 pounds, Saylors initially entered the NFL scene as an undrafted rookie free agent with the Cincinnati Bengals following the 2023 NFL Draft. However, his stint with the Bengals was short-lived as he was waived in August. Subsequently, the Atlanta Falcons picked him up for their Practice Squad in October 2023, only to waive him due to injury in January 2024. Saylors found his stride in the UFL this spring, appearing in nine games for the St. Louis Battlehawks where he accumulated 461 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 94 carries. Additionally, he showcased his versatility by catching 23 passes for 152 yards and three touchdowns.
In another roster move, the Giants have designated wide receiver Chase Cota for Injured Reserve after he suffered a collarbone injury during a recent mini-camp session. Cota, who stands at 6’4” and weighs 200 pounds, had previously signed a reserve/future contract with the Giants in January 2024. His journey in the NFL began when he joined the Detroit Lions as an undrafted rookie free agent following the 2023 NFL Draft. Despite his efforts, he was released by the Lions in late August and subsequently spent time on the Practice Squads of both the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans.
These acquisitions and adjustments underscore the Giants’ ongoing efforts to bolster their roster and navigate the challenges of player injuries and team dynamics as they prepare for the upcoming NFL season. Saylors’ addition brings depth to their running back corps, offering experience from his recent UFL performances. Meanwhile, Cota’s move to Injured Reserve is a setback for the team, prompting them to assess their options for the receiving unit moving forward. As the offseason progresses, the Giants will continue to strategize and make necessary moves to strengthen their lineup in pursuit of competitive success in the league.
