After a standout season in the UFL, Ricky Person Jr., a former NC State running back, is set to make his return to the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks.
Person distinguished himself with the Birmingham Stallions in the UFL, amassing 295 rushing yards and scoring six touchdowns over nine games. His performance was highlighted by a notable 102-yard rushing effort in the UFL Championship Game, where the Stallions secured a decisive 25-0 victory. Additionally, Person contributed 135 receiving yards on 13 receptions out of the backfield during the 2024 season.
Having initially entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens in 2022, Person was waived that July. However, his stellar campaign with the UFL Champions elevated his profile, paving the way for another opportunity at the NFL level.
Person becomes the fourth NC State running back in the NFL ranks, joining Nyheim Hines in Cleveland, Bam Knight in Detroit, and Trent Pennix, who despite being listed as a tight end, is categorized as a running back for the Pack, in Indianapolis.
While the Seahawks boast Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet as headline backs, Person’s impressive UFL performance demonstrates his potential to carve out a more substantial role. Drake Thomas, another NC State alum, similarly earned a significant role with the Seahawks last season, contributing on special teams and defense before a knee injury curtailed his rookie year.
As Seattle’s training camp approaches for the 2024 season, Person aims to solidify his place on the roster. His determination and proven ability in the UFL suggest he could make a meaningful impact, adding depth and competition to the Seahawks’ running back corps.
The move marks a pivotal moment for Person as he strives to capitalize on his UFL success and establish himself once again in the NFL, underlining his resilience and readiness to contribute at the highest level of professional football.
