Former Montana football standout Alex Gubner has inked a deal with the Kansas City Chiefs following the reigning Super Bowl champions’ mandatory three-day minicamp this week.
Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star initially broke the news, which was later corroborated by UM sports information in a Thursday afternoon press release.
Standing at 6 feet 3 inches and weighing 284 pounds, Gubner hails from California and was recognized as the Big Sky Conference’s Defensive MVP in the previous season. He played a pivotal role in the Grizzlies’ journey to the Football Championship Subdivision national runner-up title.
Having earned All-American honors during his tenure in Missoula, Gubner participated in rookie minicamps for both the Chiefs and the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent. Impressively, he secured a spot on Kansas City’s 90-man roster, as confirmed by UM sports information. His next challenge lies in the upcoming training camp with the Chiefs this summer, where he’ll need to survive roster cuts to secure a position on the team’s 53-man roster for the regular season.
Throughout his career with the Griz, Gubner amassed impressive statistics, recording a total of 172 tackles, including 28.5 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, four interceptions, one forced fumble, and one blocked kick. He showcased his durability by starting 53 out of 58 games played.Kan
